Owing to the recent resurgence of attacks by the dreaded Boko Haram insurgents in the Northern part Adamawa State and North East in general, the Member Representing Madagali/ Michika at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Zakaria Dauda Nyampa, has solicited for the establishment of Military Barracks in his constituency to help in combating insurgency and other security challenges.
According to him, if one visits Michika, one of the Local Government Area he is representing, will not find a single Armoured Personnel Carrier, and hammered on the need to provide Madagali LGA with military formation to checkmate terrorism and other security threats.
Hon. Nyampa who was speaking exclusively to NEWS PLATFORM in Yola, the Adamawa State on Saturday, decried the recent attack by the insurgents and said more needed to be done by the Military and other security agencies towards addressing insecurity.
He said that he has been following the issue of insecurity in his constituency and the country in general, and that it was against this backdrop that he raised a motion at the Green Chamber of the National Assembly on the need to take proactive measures towards ending the menace.
He disclosed that when he raised the matter, the National Assembly led by its speaker, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, suspended any other issue on that day, so as to enable them deliberate on it and suggests possible ways that will proffer a lasting solution.
Hon. Nyampa said that the NASS had challenged the Service Chiefs on how they are not living up to the expectations of their constituents and based on the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, and said something urgent needed to be done on the part of security.
The Lawmaker posited that the primary responsibility of every government is the protection of lives and property, and as such Nigerian government is expected to provide security for all and sundry for peaceful coexistence.
According to him, Nigeria is a complex society and that if all hands are put on deck, there will be no insurgency or kidnapping, saying if the security and stakeholders are serious, the problem will certainly come to an end.
He applauded Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for doing everything possible towards providing security for citizens in the state, and commended the provision of logistics support to security.
On his duty as Legislator, Hon. Zakaria Dauda Nyampa, explained that his duty at the National Assembly is to enact legislation, and all that he has been pursuing is to make laws that will be suitable for good governance, saying everything he does aside lawmaking is an additional advantage.
