BOARD OF REVENUE SEEKS FOR AN ENHANCED PARTNERSHIP WITH ADHA ON IGR
As a deliberate effort to boost internally generated revenue for the services of the state, the Adamawa state Board of Internal Revenue(BIR), has sought for an enhanced partnership with the state House of Assembly Standing Committee on Finance, Budget and Appropriation to improve IGR of the state.
The Chairman of the Board, Alh. Hamma Adama Njabari, stated this while receiving the Chairperson of the House Committee on Finance, Budget and Appropriation, Hon. Kate Mamuno Raymond(Demsa constituency) who paid him a familiarisation visit in his office.
Alh, Njabari said that the board has been looking forward to such a visit so as to seek for an enhanced partnership with a view to improving the IGR of the state.
The Chairman told the committee that revenue collection is beyond what the board alone can handle, as all the revenue stakeholders have to come together and work as a team in order to boost revenue.
He disclosed that the board is a creation of the state Assembly law number 4, of 2007, and charged with the mandate of collecting all the revenues accruing to the state on behalf of the government.
Comprehensively, according to him, they can achieve collection through a defined circle of assessment, collection, accounting and remittance of all IGR collected on behalf of the state.
The board, he added has 10 Directorates and that each Directorate is headed by a Director, saying their activities are coordinated by the secretary of the board whose appointment is within the services of the board.
According to Njabari, the board has 7 zonal offices: Mubi, Michika, Gombi, Numan, Ganye, Yola office located in Yola south and Jimeta office located near Jimeta ultra modern market.
He pointed out that he was able to create an Area office in Girei Local Government area, explaining that he had disconnected the Area office from Gombi zonal office so as to block leakages.
Alh, Hamma Adama Njabari, further said that presently the board has over 500 permanent staff on state payroll and 287 temporary engaged staff which comprises 250 daily rated staff engaged to assist the board and 37 security personnel also engaged to render security services.
