EXPEDITE EFFORT TO END KIDNAPPING, ADAMAWA NUJ URGES GOV FINTIRI
National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Adamawa State Council has urged on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, led administration to expedite effort in curtailing cases of kidnapping and other forms of criminality in the state.
However, the Union lauded the government for taking proactive measures in tackling the dreaded Shila Boys, that hitherto continued to terrorise commuters within the state capital.
The Union further commended Governor Fintiri, for appointing a seasoned journalist, Mr. Solomon Kumangar, as his Director General on Media and Communications, and appealed to him to consider giving more opportunities to journalists to enable them contribute their quarter to the development of the state.
This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of congress meeting held yesterday at the press center.
The communiqué which was signed by the Secretary and Chairman of the Union, Mr. Fidelis Jocthan and Com. Ishaka Donald Dedan respectively, made a passionate appeal on the government to look into the plight of the state owned media outfits including Adamawa Press Limited, Publishers of The Scope Newspaper, Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and Adamawa Television Corporation( ATV), observeing that the affected organisations have been battling with obsolete equipment.
While urging on NAWOJ and SWAN to synergise with the mother union, the council said it will soon introduce a compendium containing the accredited and practicing journalists aimed at checkmating quackery and fraudsters in the profession.
It commiserated with the citizens in the state over the recent flood disaster which claimed 7 lives in some parts of the state while destroying valuable property, and urged on the members of the union to create more awareness for people to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuge most especially in drainages.
It called on the government to provide refuge dumpsites, waste bins, incenarators for usage so as to discourage indiscriminate dumping of refuge within the state.
