ADAMAWA GOVT TO PRESENT 2020 BUDGET ESTIMATES IN OCTOBER - PERM SEC



Adamawa State Government says it is making necessary arrangements towards the presentation of budget estimates for the year 2020 to the State Assembly in October this year for consideration and subsequent approval.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Finance, Mr. Geoffrey Garba, made this known while receiving the Chairperson and members of the House Standing Committee on Finance, Budget and Appropriation of the state Assembly who were at the ministry on a familiarisation visit today.

Earlier, in her remarks, the Chairperson of the Committee and Member representing Demsa constituency, Hon. Kate Mamuno Raymond, told the perm sec and other principal officers of the ministry that they were at their office primarily to interface, relate and acquaint themselves with the activities of the ministry.

Hon. Kate Mamuno, added that since her committee was inaugurated by the Speaker of the honourable house,Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, it has not been able to visit the Ministry as well Departments and Agencies under it; hence, the need to do so in line with the laws that established the committee.

According to her, the visit was not to witchunt anybody, but get acquainted with some of the activities of the Ministry and at the sometime synergize for the overall interest of the executive and legislative arms of government and the entire citizens of the state.

Responding, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Geoffrey Garba, appreciated the committee for the time it has taken to visit the Ministry and its agencies.

Mr. Garba, disclosed that the state is already in a budget season, and that they had had a meeting on the resource envelope, saying that they have already taken off.

According to him, the next level of their meeting is to finalise a draft, see the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), brief the Governor and that from briefing the Governor, they will take it to the Council and after consideration, they will forward it to house for scrutiny and subsequent approval.

He further explained that their timeline for these activities is that by October 2019, the budget supposed to be in the house, insisting that the present administration wants to maintain the good record of ensuring that the budget is approved as early as possible so that it can be assented to and take off implementation in January as it was obtained in the past.

He pledged to work in synergy with the hallowed chamber so that it will assist them and address some of the challenges they have been facing like lack of a befitting office accommodation for the Accountant General, training and retraining of staff so as to update them.
