COUNT ON OUR SUPPORT, SPEAKER ADHA ASSURES VICTIM SUPPORT FUND(VSF)



Speaker Adsmawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, has assured a Non Governmental Organisation, Victim Support Fund (VSF) of the Assembly's readiness to support the NGO to enable it continue to reach out to the victims of insurgency most especially in the northern part of the state.

Rt. Hon. Iya Abbas, gave the assurance while receiving the Executive Director VSF who led other principal officers of the organisation on a courtesy visit in his o
ffice.

The Speaker told the delegation that the house is ready to support their NGO to enable it continue to render necessary assistance to the victims of terrorism most especially in Madagali, Michika, Mubi north, Mubi south, Maiha, Hong and Gombi Local Government areas.

According to him, so many victims of the insurgency are still encountering hardship and needed intervention so as to ameliorate their hardship, lamenting that the dreaded Book Haram's attacks affected so many things including public facilities like schools and health centers and needed more intervention.

He appreciated the organisation for the visit and reiterated the readiness of the hollowed chamber towards supporting its activities in order to do more in its humanitarian services.

In his remarks, the Majority Leader and member representing Jada Mbulo constituency, Hon. Hamman tukur Yettisuri, appealed to VSF to expand its programmes to southern senatorial district most especially Ganye LGA, as it was once hit by the terrorists.

While applauding the activities of VSF, the Majority Leader declared their readiness to contribute their quarter even if it is financially as counterpart so as to enable them benefit from from it.

Baring his mind, the member representing Verre constituency, Hon. Abdullahi Umar Yapak, said his constituency had hosted Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the wake of the attacks, informing them that his constituency had suffered as suffered as the BH affected areas and needed intervention.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Director VSF, Professor Sunday Ochoche, said that they were in the speaker's office to intimate him and other members on some of the activities of the organisation most especially at the BH affected areas.

Prof Ochoche said that the primary reason behind establishing the organisation is to take care of the victims of terrorism and violence across the country, saying that some of their activities are economic empowerement for victims, educational support for terror affected and displaced and support for overstretched hospitals to provide free treatment to the victims.

While responding to the request put to him by some of the members on the need to expand their programmes to their respective constituencies, Prof Ochoche, told them that VSF operates in insurgency affected LGAs approved by the FG.

He thanked the speaker and other members for the opportunity given to them to visit and brief on some of their activities.
