ADAMAWA POLY TO START 11 DEGREE PROGRAMMES NEXT SESSION
Rector Adamawa State Polytechnic (SPY), Yola, Professor Ibrahim Umar, has said that the polytechnic will start awarding Degree Programmes in 11 different courses during next academic session.
According to the Rector, the degree programmes which will be affiliated with the University of Maiduguri (uniMAID), will be in Social and Management Sciences respectively.
He said that the degree programmes will be in the fields of Mass Communication, Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Sociology, Economics, Computer Science, English Language, and Public Administration.
The Rector of the institution started this while receiving the House Standing Committee Education led by its Chairman and member representing Hong constituency, Hon. Bathiya Wesley, who paid him a familiarisation visit in his office yesterday.
Professor Umar, told the committee that the institution had discussed with 3 Universities including the Ahmadu Bello University(ABU), Zaria, Federal University, Dutse, and University of Maiduguri, and that ABU Zaria and University Dutse respectively gave the Polytechnic approval to run degree programmes, but the Nigerian University Commission(NUC,) denied it the affiliation.
He said that the NUC had told them that ABU is far from Yola, and University Dutse, is a new university, saying that they further moved to University of Maduguri, and in principle the university agreed to give them 11 courses which they will commence awarding them to the indigenes of Adamawa at next academic session.
