Adamawa Police Command Inaugurates VCRU to Curb Emerging Security Threats

 


The Adamawa State Police Command on Friday, inaugurated Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) saddled with the responsibility of curtailing emerging security threats.


The unit was formed and inaugurated to curtail kidnapping, shila gangsterism, terrorism, armed robbery, cult-related offences among others.

In his remarks at the event, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, hailed the inauguration of the unit, saying that it will go along way in curtailing violent crime in the society.

Governor Fintiri who was represented by the Special Adviser on Security, Ahmed Lawan assured the command of support and cooperation at all the times to enable it rid Adamawa free from crime and criminality.

Inaugurating the unit, the Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Umar Hassan, emphasized the importance of the formation of task force by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to counter insurgency and combat crime.

CP Hassan explained that the task force aims to act swiftly in responding to any criminal activities, ensuring operations are within the law, saying that stakeholders were invited to ensure the task force's actions do not infringe on personal liberties.

According to him, the team will be led by an experienced officer who has undergone specialized training to ensure effective crime-fighting efforts, and reiterated the importance of involving all stakeholders in the task force to prevent accusations of violating human rights.

He added that the task force will consist of officers who have received advanced training and are expected to deliver results within the legal framework.

He thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his support and cooperation at all times, assuring of the command's commitment towards fighting crime and criminality.

In their separate goodwill messages, the representatives of Chief Judge, Human Right Commission, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Nigeria Bar Association, Lamido Adamawa, and others applauded the IGP for the initiative and the state police command for inaugurating it.
