Man Who Specialises in Buying Stolen Items, Lady, other Sent to Yola Prison


A middle age man identified as Abubakar Mohammed in Yola, Adamawa State has been remanded in prison custody for the alleged offence of buying stolen items. News Platform 

Mohammed, was remanded at the correctional centre along aside a lady known as Fatima Muhammed and Babangida Abubakar.

Mohammed who operates business at Falluja market in Jimeta-Yola and 2 other defendants were remanded at correctional centre by the Chief Magistrate Court II presided by M. A. Adamu.

Arraigning the defendants, Inspector Kabiru Abubakar, informed the court that Abubakar Danjuma of Nasarawo ward Jimeta Yola reported an incident of theft at Dubeli police station on the 14th May, 2026.

Inspector Kabiru told the court that the nominal complainant had reported that on the 21st March, 2026, Babangida of Wauru Jabbe Yola South LGA burgled his shop located at Zarandan street and carted several items.

According to him, some of the items stole by the defendants include 2 itel phones valued N10,000, 2 tecno phones valued N17,000, itel phone with a big battery valued N14,000, 2 memory card valued N7,000 Mp player valued N10,000, small Mp player valued N4,500 and the sum of N13, 000 cash totalling N76,000.

He alleged that Babangida sold four small Itel phones to Mohammad of Fallujah market for N4,500 and handed over two small Itel phones and one MP player to Fatima Mohammed at Wauru Jabbe and collected the sum of N5,000.

Inspector Kabiru who arraigned them on First Information Report said that the offences contravened sections 276 and 307 of the Adamawa state Penal Code Law.

The 1st defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence of receiving stolen property, while the 2nd and 3rd defendants pleaded guilty to the offences.

The prosecutor applied for a date to call witnesses to prove their case against him, and applied to call at least 1 witness to corroborate the plea of 2nd and 3rd defendants respectively.

Babangida informed the court that he could not remember how many times he had sold stolen items more especially phones to the Mohammed.

The court granted the application and adjourned the matter to the 2nd June, 2026 for commencement of hearing on the 1st defendant and for corroboration of the plea of the 2nd to 3rd defendants respectively.
