The defendants were remanded at the Correctional Centre by the magistrate court presided by M. A. Adamu, and refused to admit them to bail.

It could be recalled that a joint security operation conducted in Mubi and environs led to the arrest of 73 suspects for various offences.

Arraigning 23 defendants before the court, Inspector Ahmed Abubakar alleged that the defendants criminally conspired, armed themselves with dangerous weapons, engaged in violent activities.

According to him, the defendants were charged with offences bordering on criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, kidnapping, armed robbery, illegal possession of firearms, terrorism, theft, receiving stolen property, mischief, and other related offences.

Other offences of which they were arraigned include criminal conspiracy, unlawful possession of weapons, prohibition of illicit drinks and banned substances and inciting disturbance.

Insp Ahmed informed the court that the defendants had distributed and consumed banned substances including tramadol, diazepam and substances suspected to be Indian hemp, thereby causing disturbance and terrorizing the inhabitants of Mubi North and Mubi South LGAs.

He told the court that the operatives recovered exhibits from the suspects including army face caps, fake police identity cards, machetes, knives, daggers and jack-knives among others and urged the court not to grant them bail as investigation is still ongoing.
