Adamawa FIDA Swears in Barr Jamila Chairperson, other Exco

The International Federation of Women Lawyers Adamawa State Branch has sworn in its newly elected Exco who will pilot its affairs for 3 years. Those sworn in as new officials include Jamila Babuba, Chairperson, Dodo Lubna Mohammad, Vice Chairperson, Nguwasen Ruth Gbaa, Secretary, Surayya Umar Adamu, Assistant Secretary. Others are Deborah Umaru Peter, Treasurer, Mamman Fatima Mandara, Financial Secretary, Sa’adatu Umar Babayi, Welfare Secretary, Amira Gurumpawo Julde, Publicity Secretary/Editor and Habiba Gambo, Assistant Publicity Secretary/Assistant Editor. The event which was held at the FIDA House in Yola, Adamawa State capital, attracted both outgoing and incoming exco and cross section of members of the association. MAN ARRESTED FOR DIGGING GRAVE, CUTTING OFF STEP FATHER'S HEAD IN ADAMAWA

Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 55 years old hunter, Yusuf Garba (aka Gana) for allegedly digging a grave and cutting the head of step father. The accused, Yusuf Garba, who hails from Tappare Kona Uku in Jada LGA had confessed to the heinous crime during interrogation by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje. Narrating the incident, the suspect explained that the son of the deceased came to him and demanded the head of his father after his demise for ritual purposes. He said when his step father died, his son tried to take the corpse to Jalingo in Taraba state for burial, but that they refused to grant his request. He said that a year after the burial of the deceased, his son stormed the house and asked for his head for traditional rites. He further narrated that the son of the deceased mounted pressure on him, and that he was left with no alternative than to do his bidding, saying " I took a hoe around 4:00am, went to the grave yard, digge...

Court Remands 4 Men for Car Theft in Adamawa

The Chief Magistrate Court 2 sitting in Yola, Adamawa state on Thursday, remanded 4 people in prison custody on 4 count charge bordering criminal conspiracy and theft. Those remanded at Yola correctional centre include Yusuf Mohammed Isah, 25, Mohammed Gidado, 33, Babangida Jalo, 43 and Adamu Yahaya, 31 of different addresses. Other defendants including Faisal Mahmud, 30 could not be arraigned because of ill health, while Abubakar Manu is said to be at large at the time of arraignment. Yusuf and 3 other defendants were arraigned before the court for the offences of "criminal conspiracy, theft, abetment and dishonesty, receiving of stolen property" contrary to sections 60, 276, 47 and 308 of the penal code law of Adamawa state, 2018. Earlier, the defendants who were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court presided by Musa Alhaji Adamu, pleaded guilty to all the offences after the content of the First Information Report (FIR) was read and explained to them. Adamawa Police to Begin Enforcement of Motor Insurance Policy Friday

In line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, the Adamawa State Police Command says it will commence the enforcement of 3rd-Party Motor Insurance Policy requirement on Friday. This is contained in a release signed by the command's Spokesman, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje and made available to newsmen on Thursday. He said, "The enforcement is in accordance with Section 68 of the Insurance Act and Sections 1, 2 - 3 of the Motor Vehicle (Third-Party Insurance) Act, which mandates all vehicle owners to obtain a minimum of Third-Party Insurance before operating on Nigerian roads. As part of our daily enforcement duties, the Command had observed with concern that less of vehicles in the state are insured as reported by the Nigeria Insurance Associations, saying it poses a significant challenge to road safety and accident victim compensation. Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has called on Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum to as a matter of urgency proffer ladting solution on the crisis confronting the basin.  Governor Fintiri stated this while addressing the 5th edition of the Lake Chard Basin Governors’ Forum meeting holding in Maiduguri, Borno state on Wednesday. He said it is his honest believe that the meeting both plenary and technical session will not only show the way out of the Lake Chad Basin crises but give more hope to the world that every player that has a conscience to search and duty to perform, saying "The world is waiting. Africa is anxious. The Basin is still bleeding. Our people are hopeful".  He noted that the meeting shows their collective recognition that they have a problem at hand and they are collective in the resolve to tackle it.
