Guber Aspirant Urges Court to Sack ADC Chair over Christian Governor's Statement



Governorship Aspirant under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in Adamawa State, Hon. Isreal Ishaku, has urged Yola High Court to sack the Chairman of ADC Adamawa state, Barr. Sadiq Ibrahim Dasin. News Platform 


The Governorship Contender prayed the court presided by Justice Kyanson Samuel Lawanson, to sack Hon. Barr. Sadiq, over alleged statement that a Christian will never Governor in Adamawa state.


Hon. Ishaku, dragged Hon. Barr. Sadiq Dasin, ADC, Brig. Gen. (Barr) Ishaya Bauka (Rtd) to court, seeking the enforcement of fundamental human rights to freedom of thought conscience and religion and freedom from discrimination.


He asked the court to determine whether the statement of Hon. Barr. Dasin, to Senator Ishaku Abbo that a Christian will not become Governor of Adamawa state is justifiable under section 39 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria and Article 9 of the African Charter on Human And Peoples Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act LFN 2004 and does not amount to threat to his right of freedom of thought conscience and religion.


He prayed the court to determine whether Hon. Barr. Sadiq, is qualified to hold the office of the chairman of the ADC, an office which should ensure that ADC flagbearers for elective offices are produced through a transparent and unbiased democratic process in a multi-cultural and multi religious society.


Part of his relifs is a declaration that the statement of Hon. Barr Sadiq to Senator Ishaku Abbo that a Christian will not become governor is not justifiable under Section 39 of the Constitution and it amounts to a threat to his right to freedom of thought conscience and religion as guaranteed under Section 38 of the 1999 Constitution and Articles 8 and 13 of the African Charter on Human And Peoples Rights (Ratification and Enforcement) Act LFN 2004.


When the matter came up for hearing on Friday, Counsel to 1st to 3rd respondents, M. J. Efewu Esq, informed the court that they had filed notice of preliminary objection, counter affidavit in opposition to the originating summons and a motion on notice to vacate motion exparte earlier granted.


It could be recalled the court on the 10th April,  2026, restrained 2nd to 3rd respondents from conducting congress pending the hearing and determination of the application for enforcement of fundamental Human rights.


Responding, Counsel to the applicant, E. O. Odo Esq, said that they had been served with all the processes, and that they are going to respond to it appropriately.


Justice Kyanson, adjourned the matter to the 24th April, 2026, to entertain arguments on pending motions, applications and possibly substantive suit.
