Gov'ship Poll: Dr. Bakari Expresses Interest, Unveils 10- Point Agenda



Governorship Aspirant under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Salihu Bakari Girei, on Friday, declared his interest to contest for the office of the governor in the state.


Dr. Bakari Girei, formally announced his intention to seek election, while addressing newsmen in Yola, Adamawa State, saying that he he decided to address them in order to inform them about his resolve to seek election.


He explained that he is presenting himself to the electorate to vote for in order to provide good governance, saying "I'll be one of the aspirants, and I hope to be the candidate of the APC for the elections".


"I've worked in public service for at least 33 years now as a lecturer, as a public administrator, and as a policy maker. I contributed enormously for the development of Adamawa state", he added.


He said that he was the Executive Chairman of Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, where he was privilege again, to transform the education landscape, especially at the basic education level.


"I built at least 5,500 classrooms record. Were able to recruit at least 17,000 teachers in four years. We promoted teachers that were lagging behind in promotion.  We trained and retrained teachers. We did a lot in terms of supervision of teachers and schools. We created more supervisors and space for more supervisors.

 

"So based on all those factors, and bearing in mind that I know Adamawa state very well, I will deliver on the mandate. There is no ward in Adamawa that I have no been to. I've visited all in my capacity as Chairman of SUBEB and Commissioner for LG Affairs.


"I have 10 points agenda, covenant, document. It's not just a manifesto. It's a promise to the people of Adamawa state. One of those on my list of promises is provision of free quality primary education for all children, irrespective of their circumstances. 


"We're going to transform our secondary schools and equip them and make sure that they are truly secondary schools. We are going to fortify the higher education institutions. We will also focus mostly on rural development".


Earlier, Dr. Bakari and his entourage visited the Secretariat of the APC where he was received by the Chairman and other Exco of the party.


He told the leadership of the party that his mission at the Secretariat was to congratulate them on their elections and subsequent inaugurations and wish them a successful tenure.


He disclosed that his visit was also to officially inform the leadership of the party about his decision and that of his supporters to contest for governorship.


Responding, the APC Chairman, Alh. Hamza Bello Madagali, said that the party is happy with the visit, saying it is clear demonstration of loyalty and respect he has for the party.


He assured that the party will do everything possible to conduct free and fair primary election not only for the office of governor, but other political offices.
