It was a moment of joy and heartfelt praises at Dason Bwatiye, a remote village in Fufore Local Government Area, Adamawa State during a Civic Reception organised by the community in honour of Comrade Rodney Nathan, Chairman Nigeria Union of Teachers(NUT) State chapter for ending over 20 years of water scarcity in the village.
According to the community, the historic event was organised primarily to thank Comrade Rodney for providing the inhabitants of the entire community with a motorised boreholes worth millions.
The reception was well attended by the sons and daughters of Bwatiye communities most especially in Fufore LGA including Chief Adviser to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Chief Joel H. Madaki, Adamawa state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Afraimu Jingi, Chairman, Pene-Da-Bwatiye Dason Village, Mr. Hilson Danjuma Theophilus, the Executive Chairman Fufore LGC, Hon. Umaru Jauro, royal fathers of Njoboliyo and Rugange, friends and well wishers.
Before the intervention, the villagers used to trek for 2 kilometres so as to fetch drinking water at River Benue, and they had been suffering since 1999 without intervention by the successive administrations both at the State and Local Government level.
The pitiable condition of the villagers who are predominantly farmers caught the attention of the the NUT Boss who took it upon himself and sponsored the drilling of motorised boreholes in the village of 1000 households so as to meet their basic need.
But as a way of saying "a big thank you" to the Chairman for the kind gesture, the community on Saturday organised a befitting reception to enable the residents express gratitude to Comrade Rodney, since governments could not recognize their existance despite their participation in elections.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Adviser to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Chief Joel Madaki extolled the kind gesture demonstrated by Rodney Nathan in rescuing the community, urging other individuals to emulate him in rendering community services.
The Elder Statesman called on the State Government to connect the community with a National grid, appealing to them to rally round Governor Fintiri led-administration so as to attract more dividends of democracy.
In his remarks, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the State, Barr Afraimu Jingi, assured the community of more dividends of democracy.
On his part, the Chairman NUT in the State, Comrade Rodney Nathan who was overwhelmed by the honour done to him, said as a citizen and son of the area, he was worried by the way the community was neglected since 1999.
Comrade Rodney told the gathering that the provision of the water supply was part of his personal contribution to community development of the area, and pledged to extend the kind gesture to education sector for the benefit of all.
Also, Mr.Hilson Danjuma Theophilus, the Chairman, Pene-Da-Bwatiye, Dason who could not hide his feelings, commended Comrade Rodney for coming to the aid of the community.
Gongrayulations Sir, for what you have done for your people in the village. May God open more doors for you, so that you will do other projects. Well done Sir.
