Communities in Lamurde Local Government Area, Adamawa State have cried out over the collapse of Lamurde -Thingno bridge following the recent heavy downpour, pleading with the State and Federal Governments to intervene so as to address their plight.
Also destroyed by the flooding were other minor bridges, farmlands, food items and other valuables, houses including that of the Supervisory Councillor Agriculture Lamurde LGC, Hon. Emmanuel Yohanna.
Some of the affected had while lamenting over the incident, said the early morning rain was responsible for the flooding which cuts off the bridge connecting the headquarters of Lamurde LGA and Thingno, Suwa, Kwa and Karim Lamido LGA in Taraba state.
Speaking during an on-the-spot assessment of the situation in the affected area, the Member representing Lamurde constituency at the state House of Assembly, Hon. Myandassa Bauna said that the situation calls for immediate intervention by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration and President Muhammad Buhari.
Hon. Bauna who led the Vice Chairman of the LGC, Councillors and Supervisory Councillors, Supporters and other constituents, said that the bridge connects his constituency with several communities in the northern part of Taraba state.
The Lawmaker disclosed that the collapse of the bridge has affected the movement of his people, adding that the road leads to Thingno where the government generates more than #1million revenue on market days, sympathising with his constituents over the incident.
According to him, Lamurde LGC cannot be able to fix the bridge; hence the need for the State or Federal governments' intervention to ameliorate the kind of hardship his electorate encounter, and at the same time enhance the revenue of the state at large.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the LGC who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Maxwell Waziri stated that the bridge was constructed over 30 years ago, and that it connects the major communities within the LGA, explaining that already, it has affected the economy of their people.
On his part, the Councillor representing Rigange ward, Hon. Talmon O called on the government to intervene so as to ease the movement of goods and services, lamenting that the incident has paralysed economic activities of their electorate.
Also baring her mind, Mary C. Audu noted that the collapse of the bridge has affected their sources of livelihood, and appreciated the member for the visit, saying that his action has shown that he has the love of his people at heart.
In the same vein, the Member representing Lamurde constituency at the State Assembly, Hon. Myandassa Bauna has sympathised with Lunguda and Waja communities in his constituency over the recent clashes that claimed lives in the communities.
Speaking while commiserating with the Lunguda at Mamsirme and Waja Communities separately, the Lawmaker told them that he came to sympathise with them over the incident, and pleaded with them to exercise patience and forgive each other.
The Legislator called on them to live in peace and harmony with each other, and that without peace nothing meaningful will be achieved.
Responding on behalf of Lunguda Community, the District Head of Mamsirme, Jacklin Abenetus said that Mamsirme Community alone was attacked for 5 times, saying it appears they do not have anybody to come to their aid.
On his part, Abubakar Yahaya of Waja Community said that the inhabitants of Lafiya have not attacked anybody, and promised to do everything possible towards promoting peace and stability in Lafiya and environs.
