Christian Association of Nigeria(CAN), Adamawa State chapter has conveyed a heartfelt felicitations to Muslim brothers and sisters on the occasion of Eid-El-Kabir celebration.
The Association extended what it described as greetings of peace, love and congratulations to the faithful as they mark this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, insisting that it is festival of sacrifice which symbolises faith and fidelity to God as well as sign of sacrifice and humility.
A statement by the Chairman of CAN, Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Dami Mamza, which was made available to NEWS PLATFORM on Friday, stated that the celebration is coming at a time when the world is ravaged rather dramatically by the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus.
Dr. Dami who is also the Bishop Catholic Diocese of Yola, lamented that there is no gainsaying the disease has greatly affected the lives and communities, thereby making religion not to be practiced in the conventional way.
He disclosed that they see many in danger of hopelessness, defeats while others taking to violence and extreme measures as if those were the solutions.
According to him, what this suggests is that there is no time in history that calls for a renewed and continual fidelity in humble submission to the will of God than this period of the COVID-19.
He encouraged both Muslims and Christians to continue to strive in order to understand and put into practice what God wills for them as revealed in our Sacred Scriptures, adding that the easiest and surest way to overcoming the challenge is through human solidarity and faith in God.
He declared that he shares in the sentiments offered by Pope Francis during his visit to Arab Emirate in February 2019, when he said, “Faith leads a believer to see in the other a brother or sister to be supported and loved".
Bishop Dami further quoted Pope Francis as saying: "Through faith in God, who has created the universe, creatures and all human beings (equal on account of his mercy), believers are called to express this human fraternity by safeguarding creation and the entire universe and supporting all persons, especially the poorest and those most in need.”
Most Re. Dr. Stephen Dami Mamza expressed belief that despite the challenge of the coronavirus, human solidarity in the long run will help the society in this time of great uncertainty.
