Police in Adamawa state have arrested 18 year old man for defiling 2 yr old baby in Yola, Adamawa state capital.
The suspect, Moses Bukar and resident of Jambutu ward in Yola North Local Government Area was arrested by the Detectives of the State Police Command attached to Karewa Division.
A statement by the image maker of the Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje which was made available to NEWS PLATFORM in Yola on Wednesday, said that the suspect was nabbed on the 28th July, 2020, for sexually assaulting the 2 year old baby.
According to the statement, the suspect whose shop is neighboring that of the mother of the victim, took the baby into a Bekaji Primary School, pretending to be neighbors and used the opportunity and defiled the innocent child.
The mother who noticed the swollen private part of her little daughter, according to the state, immediately reported the matter to the police which led to the arrest of the suspect who later confessed to had committed the crime.
It added that the harples victim is now undergoing medical screening at health facility, and that the suspect is now in police custody, adding that the suspect will be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.
However, the Commissioner of police Olugbenga Adeyanju, has commended the public especially those that are supporting the fight against Sexual Violence Against Women and Children, and called on parents and guardians to closely monitor their wards.
CP Adeyanju further reassured the commitments of the command to protecting lives and property of the citizens, and appealed to the general public people to continue in reporting suspicious movement around them for appropriate action.
