MUBI COMMUNITY PETITIONS ADHA OVER KILLINGS BY POLYTECHNIC SECURITY


Vimtim, a Community in Mubi North Local Government Area, Adamawa has petitioned State House of Assembly over alleged killings by the security personnel of the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi.

The community alleged that the security personnel manning the institution have killed one Alhaji Tijanni Nglasar and Pa Chiriya Ndingwar sometimes, and threatened fire and brimstone to other inhabitants of the community.

According to the Community, the same security operatives arrested and detent Pa Muzurwa at the Polytechnic cell for good six days, and ruthlessly dealt with several farmers to the point of death in 2018.

More so, the community noted with dismay the arrest and detention of its Counsel, Barrister M. V. Magai, the former Chairman of Mubi north LGC, Hon. John Kwalle and Buba Ngashe at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Yola, and the continued harassment by the police.

The petition alleged that it took the grace of God to avert open violence when the police from CID came to share the community's piece of land to alleged hired hoodlums in collaboration with the Polytechnic's Security.

The allegations which were contained in a petition signed by the Lead Counsel for the Community, Dr. M. V. Magai Esq and sent to the House of Assembly, appealed to the Assembly to take preventive measures against breach of public peace between Vimtim Community and the Polytechnic.

Trouble, according to the Community, started when the Management of the Polytechnic refused to adhere to the boundary limits of the land donated to the Federal School of Arts and Science Mubi in 1974.

It averred that despite clear demarcation of the landmass donated, the Management of the institution through its Security Chiefs forcefully extended the boundaries which resulted the aforementioned crimes.

It appealed to the government to urgently prevent the escalating violence and related crimes against the Community by the security outfit of the school.

The copy of the petition was presented at the floor of the State Assembly by the Chairman House  Committee on Petitions, Public Service and Electoral Matters and Member representing Guyuk constituency, Hon. Adwawa Donglock.

After the presentation of the petition, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas who presided over Monday plenary referred it to House Standing Committee on Land and Survey and given 2 weeks within which to investigate the matter.
