YEDC CEO TACKLES VANDALISM, POWER SUPPLY CHALLENGES, REVENUE LOSSES

The MD/CEO of Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), Engr. Abdulrahman Isa, has revealed that the company recently recorded no fewer than 37 cases of vandalism across its franchise areas. According to the CEO, Yobe region ranked the highest with 20 cases, saying, “So far, we have prosecuted 12 of these cases, with the culprits serving jail terms.”  The MD futher noted that such incidents disrupted service delivery and caused significant financial losses, affecting YED cability to meet its obligations. This engagement took place during a sensitization engagement at the Fombina Emirate Council in Adamawa State, where he led a team of senior management to engage with stakeholders. SODOMY: ISLAMIC TEACHER DEFILES 2 PUPILS IN ADAMAWA

The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended a 22 year- old Islamic Teacher and an Imam, Malam Idris Abubakar, for allegedly defiling 2 pupils. Mallam Idris who lives at Unguwan Gaya in Mubi South LGA, allegedly, had sexual intercourse with his 11 and 12 years old victims (Almajiri) through their anus. The pupils who also hail from the community are being taught islamic knowledge by the suspect in the community. While narrating their ordeal to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, one of the victims who is 12 years old ( names withheld) said that the suspect who happens to be their teacher used to ask him and the 11 years old to work for him after closing hours. "He normally delayed us after closing hours and engaged us in domestic activities like sweeping and washing of plates during which he takes advantage of us." FAWE, PLAN INTL UNVEIL TRAINING MANUALS ON GRESP, "TSANGAYA" EDUCATION

The Forum for African Wmen Educationalists (FAWE) Nigeria and Plan International on Monday, unveiled 3 different training Manuals on Gender Responsive Education Sector Planning as well as on "Tsangaya" education. The manuals include Gender Responsive Education Sector Planning (GRESP) Facilitator's Manual, Facilitator's Manual on "Tsangaya" education and Directory for Women Right Youth-Led Disability Grassroots Associations in Adamawa state. The documents are the brain child of the project titled" Strengthening Civil Society Organisations to Enhance Education for All in Northern Nigeria'. Interestingly, the documents were developed following a rigorous research and desk review process which involved various stakeholders and expected to serve as a guide for training actors both in government and Civil Society Organisations. ADAMAWA CENTRAL SENATOR MOURNS SEN PROF ZWINGINA

The Senator representing Adamawa Central Senatorial District, Aminu Iya Abbas (Iya Adamawa) has expressed deep regret over the demise of a former Senator Adamawa South District, Prof. Jonathan Silas Zwingina. In a condolence message through his Yola Media Office, to the Adamawa State Government, Adamawa South Senatorial District, and the Nunguraya nation, the senator  said he was saddened by news of the death of an illustrious son  of Adamawa.  He described the departure of the former Majority Leader of the Senate, as a great loss to the Nunguraya nation, Adamawa State and Nigeria as a whole.   The Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Bathiya Wesley on behalf of members and staff of the Adamawa state House of Assembly consoled with the family of late Clarkson Gajere past on to glory Tuesday 1st October 2024. A statement by Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Hyellamada Bernard, said the Speaker who led members of the assembly o the residence of the deceased in Bekaji Housing Estate, sympathised with family over the loss. Until his demise late Clarkson Gajere was a Planning Officer House of Assembly as well as Secretary House standing Committee on Finance Appropriation and Budget.
