House Standing Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs of the Adamawa State House of Assembly has expressed its readiness to consider granting approval of soft loan for 226 Councillors across the state.
According to the Honourable Committee, approving the facility for the Councillors will enable them execute constituency projects for their electorate at the grassroots.
It is in the light of the foregoing that the Committee asked the Councillors to forward their request through the Chairmen of their respective LGCs to the House via the Committee for approval.
The Chairman of the Committee and Member representing Nasarawo Binyeri Constituency, Hon. Umar Nashon Gubi stated this while receiving the Leadership of Councillors Forum on courtesy visit at House of Assembly complex.
Hon. Nashon assured them that his Committee will support them so as to secure the facility to enable them embark on the execution of capital projects with a view to complementing the effort of Governor Ahmadu Umatu Fintiri in providing dividends of democracy.
According to him, his Committee will facilitate securing of soft loan for the Councillors to execute people oriented projects which they will be remembered for, and cautioned them against engaging their Chairmen in unnecessary fight.
He tasked them to support the ruling party that brought them to power so that it will wax stronger ahead of future elections, saying that internal wrangling will not augur well for them, and their party and that it will affect another chance.
Hon. Umar Nashon Gubi charged them to take the issue of security of lives and property of their electorate with utmost seriousness, and appreciated them for the visit.
In his remarks, a member of the Committee, Hon. Hamidu Sajo Lekki (Yola North) charged them to support the ruling party, and appealed to them to continue to be united for the development of their wards.
Also speaking, the Member representing Hong constituency, Hon. Wesley Bathiya called on them to engage in dialogue to solve their internal problems, saying nothing meaningful will be achieved in a chaotic atmosphere.
On her part, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno(Demsa) appealed to them to do everything possible towards executing developmental projects, and stressed the need for the support of womens' participation in politics.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and the president of Councillors Forum, Hon. Mike Okopi said the leadership of the forum deemed it necessary to visit the committee to acquaint themselves with membership and the activities of the committee.
