Association of the Wives of Members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly has flagged off the distribution of palliatives to the less privilege women and widows so as to alleviate their suffering as result of Covid-19 pandemic which affected many lives in the society.
Speaking while flagging off the distribution of the palliatives in Yola, the Adamawa State capital on Friday, the Wive of the Governor, Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri commended the association for borrowing a leaf from her pet programme aimed at assisting the vulnerable in the society.
Hajiya Lami Fintiri said that most of the beneficiaries lack resources to cater for their basic needs, and said distributing such palliatives to them will go along way in improving their standard of living.
Earlier, in her remarks, the Chairperson of the Association who is the wife of the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Dr. Hauwa Aminu Iya Abbas said that the gesture was to cushion the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the vulnerable women across 25 Constituencies.
Dr. Hauwa disclosed that the Association was established primarily to help the vulnerable groups in the society, saying that it is with utmost importance to reach out to the needy at such a critical time.
She further revealed that the Association planning to extend the kind gesture to the households of other less privileged across the constituencies
Some of the beneficiaries of the items expressed appreciation and thanked the Wives of the Members for the gesture.
