SUBSTANDARD: ADHA ORDERS SUSPENSION OF WORK ON GOMBI RURAL ROAD

Dissatisfied with the level of work being executed on Gombi rural road, the Adamawa State House of Assembly Standing Committee on Rural Infrastructure and Community Development has ordered for immediate suspension of the rehabilitation of Amdur rural road in Gombi Local Government Area.

The Honourable Committee however summoned the Contractor handling the project and the Consultant to appear before it on Monday to explain reasons behind the failure of the company to abide by specification as contained in contract agreement.

This is coming even as the inhabitants of the LGA have called on Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri to immediately to revoke the contract due to poor job more especially on the culverts of 15.58 kilometer Gombi rural road.

Cross section of the residents said if Rural Access Road and Mobility Project(RAMPII) is out to help them, it should do so to enable them enjoy it, lamenting that if care is not taken the bridges and culverts being constructed will collapse from now to 5 years.

The contract on the road which connects Amdur, Giltambara, Mijiwana and Konan Yaji communities to the headquarters of Gombi Local Government Area was awarded to Tec Construction Company in October 2019.

The Member of the Committee and Deputy Speaker of the House, Hon. Pwamwakaino Mackondo who gave the order while supervising the work being executed on the road on Monday, said that the kind of work being done is totally unacceptable to the Honourable Committee.

Hon. Mackondo who represents Numan constituency said that the committee discovered hitches more especially on the culverts/ bridges and cannot afford to allow it to continue; hence the directives for its immediate suspension.

He directed the company to suspend the work immediately and report to the House on Monday with original designed plan as they discovered that the work is not being executed according to plan, adding that as of now, there is no plan on the ground concerning the work.

According to him, the Contractor and the Consultant should appear in person and not their representatives on the issue, declaring that at the moment the work stands suspended.

Also speaking, the Member representing Gombi constituency, Hon. Japhet Kefas noted with dismay the manner the contract is being executed, saying apart from substandard facilities, the bridges and the culverts are very low and cannot contain the volume of water.

He called on the Ministry of Rural Infrastructure and Community Development and Rural Access and Mobility Projects (RAMPII) to address the problem saying that the contractor is sabotaging their effort.
