Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, Speaker ADHA

Lawmakers at the Adamawa State House of Assembly have unanimously confirmed the appointment of Chairman and Members of the State Fiscal Responsibility Commission(FRC).

The nominees confirmed for Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC) include; Mohammad Bakari as Chairman, Barr. Lilian Steven Nabe, Alhaji Adamu Chagwa and Saadatu Saad Abdullahi as members.

The confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of the report of the House Standing Committee on Finance, Budget and Appropriation headed by Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno (Demsa Constituency).

Earlier, Hon. Kate in a report of the screening exercise of nominees presented before the Honourable Members at a resumed plenary session on Wednesday, said that the Committee had successfully completed the screening exercise of the nominees.

She prayed the hallowed chamber to approve the appointment of the nominees as requested by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, saying all the nominees are indigenes of the state and are competent enough to steer the ship of the commission.

It was in the light of the foregoing that the legislators went ahead and unanimously okayed the appointment of the aforementioned chairman and members of the commission.

Thereafter, the Speaker of the Honourable House, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas who presided over the sitting, directed the clerk of the House to communicate the resolution of the House to Governor Fintiri for further action.

Meanwhile, the Lawmakers have stood down the report seeking for the confirmation of the Chairman and Members of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

Though, the report of the screening exercise of the nominees as submitted by Hon. Kate was duly considered, but was later stepped down pending  legislation on a bill that has sought to make amendments on the existing law establishing the bureau.

At the moment, the legislators are legislating on a bill for a law to put in place some aspects of the bureau, so as to comprehensively formulate and harmonise existing policies and practices in consonance with international standard.

NEWS PLATFORM learnt that the bill is meant to amend the State BPP law number 23 of 2013, so as to be in line with international best practice, strengthen the organisation entirely for the benefit of Adamawa.

The nominees that their confirmation is yet to become a reality include; Yakubu Ngbale as Chairman, Eng. Jingi Mallu, Barr. Husseina Maidawa, Adamu Ali Balami, Gambo Nduhyelya Job, Muktar Abdullahi, Iliyasu Buba Gashinbaki and Danlami Babayo as members of the reputable BPP.

In the same vein, the Lawmakers have enacted about 2 bills for a law to amend Christian and Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards law number 7 of 2014, and law number 6 of 2014, respectively so as to change the qualification of the Secretaries of the boards.

After the enactment of the laws, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas who presided over Wednesday sitting, directed the clerk to prepare clean copies of the bills for Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's assent.
