Concerned by the plight of the Development Areas in Adamawa State due to none remittance of percentage meant for the running of their offices, the State Assembly Committee on legislative Compliance, Special Duties and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has directed LGCs to comply with the provision of law on remittance.
The 50 Development Area Administrators have for quite sometimes now been complaining about the attitude of the Chairmen of the 21 LGCs regarding the remittance of funds meant for their offices.
According to the Administrators, the leadership of the mother LGCs have not been complying with the provision of Local Government Administration Law on what is due for them and their offices at end of every month.
The action of the Chairmen according to the Develpment Areas has not only affected them and their offices, but their desire to provide dividends of democracy to their electorate in line with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri's development agenda.
Moved by the plight of the Administrators and how best to address it that the Member representing Ganye and Chairman Committee on Legislative Compliance of the House, Hon. Alhassan Hammajoda took bold steps by calling on the Assembly to wade into the matter in the interest of the people at the grassroots.
Hon. Alhassan who was very much concerned about the development, prayed the Speaker of House, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas and other Members to impress on the LGCs so as to strictly abide by the law establishing the Development Areas.
The 2 term member in a motion on matter of urgent public importance brought before the Honourable House, said that addressing the problem is directly putting smile on the faces of the masses, lamenting that none remittance has made the Development Areas redundant and ineffective.
It was based on the motion that the house resolved and mandated Hon. Alhassan Compliance Committee to summon the Leadership of All Local Government of Nigeria(ALGON) State Chapter to look into the issue.
After the mandate, the Committee went ahead and invited the exco of ALGON, who appeared and pleaded with the House to give them time in order to meet with other LGC Chairmen.
The meeting which was presided by the Chairman of the House Committee, however directed them to comply with the law establishing Development Areas on the monthly allocation meant for them.
Hon. Alhassan who is one of the vibrant members of the Assembly, further briefed his colleagues on outright violation of law establishing Development Areas, and said the council chairmen need to work inline with provision of law to enable those at the grassroots feel the impact of the government.
Responding, the Chairman ALGON Adamawa State, Hon. Jingi Rufa'i who led the leadership of the council chairmen, assured the Committee that they will meet with other members to discuss on the issue on how to fix the problem.
