Residents of Kiri Community in Toungo Local Government Area, Adamawa State have raised concern about the quality of job being executed by Heriprom Engineering Company handling Toungo -Kiri 11.47kilometer rural road.
According to them, the work so far executed on the road fell below specification, saying apart from lack of quality work, the delay in the execution of the project has caused a lot of hardship to the benefiting communities.
This is coming even as the House of Assembly Standing Committee on Rural Infrastructure and Community Development has summoned the Contractor handling the rehabilitation of the road and that of Longa Ewa- Wuro Abbo 16.7kilometre road in Jada LGA to appear before the House on Monday for explanation.
This followed observations by the Members of the Honourable Committee led by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Pwamwakaino Mackondo(Numan constituency) during an oversight tour of projects being executed by the World bank and State Government through Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP II) in Jada and Toungo LGAs respectively.
During the tour, the Deputy Speaker led Membership of the Committee including Hon. Abdullahi Umar Nyako (Toungo), Chairman, Hon. Adwawa Donglock(Guyuk), Vice Chairman and Hon.Joseph Ayuba Kwada(Michika) and Hon. Ibrahim Musa Italiya(Mayo Belwa) and the Secretary of the Committee, Audu Buba.
Recall that the Committee led by Hon. Mackondo has since Monday embarked on the inspection of the rural roads projects being executed by RAMP II and so far covered Gombi, Hong, Mubi North, Maiha, Toungo and Jada LGAs.
While the Committee which has been inspecting the road projects from the beginning to the end, noted with satisfaction the work executed in Mubi North, Maiha and Hong LGAs, it was left with no option than to invite the contractors handling projects in Gombi, Toungo and Jada LGAs due to poor job.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after inspecting Toungo-Kiri road on Wednesday, the Deputy Speaker said that the Members of the Committee had found out that the sand filling and drainages have no problem, but it has discovered problem with some culverts which the Members were not satisfied with it.
Hon. Mackondo told newsmen that the Contractor had assured the Committee that he will take corrective measures on the problems identified.
However, he disclosed that the Committee had received a complaint from the community; hence its unanimous decision to invite the Contractor to appear before them on Monday next week for explanation.
The Lawmaker explained that the Contractor has been directed to appear next week with the original design of the contract and agreement with RAMP II, so as to solve the problem once and for all.
While at Longa Ewa- Wuro Abbo road in Jada, the Deputy Speaker pointed out that the Committee found out that the work is perfect from the beginning to the middle, but observed lack of proper work from the middle to the end of the road.
Hon. Pwamwakaino Mackondo therefore called on the Contractor to expedite effort and complete the project so as to meet up with the October 2020, dateline.
Meanwhile, the Member representing Toungo constituency who is the Chairman of the Committee, has expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in the completion of the work, saying that the work is okay in some places, but there is need for correction in some other places.
Baring his mind, the District Head of Kiri, Usman Gindau said that the work is partially good, saying that his subjects are ready to support the Contractor so as to complete his job on time.
On his part, the Vice Chairman Jada LGC, Hon. Simon Sule has called on the Contractor to do everything possible and complete the project for easy transportation of goods and services.
