ADHA TAKES STEPS TO ENSURE REMITTANCE OF FUNDS TO DEV AREAS

Worried by the failure of Local Government Councils in Adamawa state to comply with the provisions of law to allocate certain percentage of funds to 50 Development Areas in the state, the state House of Assembly has taken steps towards addressing lack of remitting the exact amount meant for the Development Areas by the LGC.

To this end, the hallowed chamber has tasked its Standing Committees on Legislative Compliance under the headship of Hon. Alhassan Hammajoda (Ganye) and that of Local Government Affairs headed by Hon. Umar Nashon Gubi(Nassarawo Binyeri) to liaise with the Ministry for Local Government Affairs towards ensuring the affected Development Areas are allocated funds meant for them at the end of every month.

The Honourable Members urged the leadership of the Committees to take it up with the ministry of LGA towards ensuring that LGCs adhere strictly to Local Government Establishment and Administration Law 2004, regarding prompt remittance of exact amount for the running of the Development Areas.

The resolution of the hallowed chamber followed a matter of urgent public interest brought before the Honourable Members by the Chairman House Committee on Legislative Compliance and Member representing Ganye constituency, Hon. Alhassan Hammanjoda.

Earlier, Hon. Alhassan briefed his colleagues on the plight of the Development Areas, saying lack of adherence to the law towards remitting the funds has adversely affected the performance of the Sole Administrators and their Development Areas.

The Lawmaker urged the House to impress on Governor Ahmadu Unaru Fintiri to as matter of urgency intervene by directing Local Government Councils to comply with the provisions of laws.

Several Lawmakers who spoke on the motion including Rt. Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa (Yola South), Hon. Adwawa Donglock (Guyuk), Hon. Abubajar Isa (Shelleng), Hon. Abdullahi Umar Yapak (Verre), Hon. Umar Nashon Gubi (Nasarawo Binyeri) and Hon. Hammatukur Yettisuri (Jada Mbulo), commended the sponsor of the motion and called for immediate action to end the plight of the Development Areas.
