ADAMAWA MINISTRY OF HEALTH CLAMPDOWN ON PRIVATE OPERATORS, SEALS 3 FACILITIES

Prof. Abdullahi Isa, Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Health and Human Services, Adamawa State

Adamawa State Ministry of Health and Human Services has commenced an inspection of private hospitals, clinics and laboratories in the state.

So far, the ministry has sealed 3 health facilities within Yola, the Adamawa State Capital due to poor infrastructural facilities and threatened to shutdown more facilities out of the 43 penciled down for inspection.

The facilities closedown so far include; Winben Nursing Home and Maternity, Sound Medical Laboratory and Jeff Medical Laboratory.

The Director Laboratory Services in the Ministry, Lazarus Gideon made this known in his remarks at a stakeholder engagement on health bills organised by the state House of Assembly Committee on Health and Human Services in conjunction with International Republican Institute (IRI) held at the Assembly's complex yesterday.

Lazarus said that the ministry has embarked upon the inspection of private facilities so as to assess their performance and the kind of facilities they use with a view to sanitising them.

He disclosed that those closedown were found to have outrightly violated the laid down rules as they operate in a dirty environment, with poor infrastructure/facilities, without the required staff and lack of proper registration.

According to him, his team is inspecting Adamawa Central zone, while 2 other teams have been assigned to inspect such facilities in Southern and Northern zones respectively.
