ADHA DEP SPEAKER VISITS CONSTITUENTS, PROMISES INTERVENTION FOR FLOOD VICTIMS


As stakeholders in some Local Government Areas devastated by flooding continue to appeal for government intervention, the Deputy Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Pwamwakaino Mackondo, has undertaken assessment tour of the flooded communities in his constituency.

The Deputy Speaker who is representing Numan constituency at the State House of Assembly, visited some worst hit communities including Tunga Ladan, Hodi Kake, Gamadiyo, Zangun and Imbru, in his constituency purposely to see things for himself.

In the course of an on the spot assessment tour of the flooded Areas yesterday, the Deputy Speaker was able to interact with royal fathers, and some of the victims, where they pleaded for intervention so as to ameliorate their suffering.

Hon. Mackondo, had while interacting with the Galadima Tunga Ladan, Joel Idi, Village Heads of Hodi Kake, Augustine Bogokiro, Gamadiyo, Haziel Tamodi, Imbru, Samuel Madau and Kpana Pius Robinson Madito, of Zangun, among other victims, sympathised with them over the incident.

Some of the traditional rulers told the Lawmaker and his delegation that they have not witnessed flood disaster that wrecked havoc like the recent one, saying that the volume of water in 2012 flood disaster exceeded the recent one, but the destruction of the recent one exceeded that of 2012.

The October flooding has been caused by torrential rainfall coupled with the huge volume of water released by the authorities of the Cameroon republic, displacing thousands of people in Fufore, Yola South, Yola North, Girei, Demsa, Numan, Lamurde, LGAs residing along the bank of river Benue.

Speaking while interacting with the victims, the Deputy Speaker, said as a representative of people, it has become necessary to visit his constituents and commiserate with them over the disaster.

Hon. Mackondo, said that his heart bleeds because of the level of destruction he has seen which according to him, cannot be compared with that of 2012 his constituents had experienced, saying that the recent flood disaster has affected houses and farmlands and called for emergency intervention.

He specifically appealed to State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and National Emergency Management Agency (NEM) and other relevant authorities to swing into action by assisting his people through provision of relief materials.

According to him, currently no record of the loss of lives or outbreak of any disease such as cholera, but called on the Ministry of Health to adequately prepare for any eventuality so as to save lives.

He told them that they have enacted a resolution at the plenary session of the house where they mandated joint committees to meet with some members of the National Assembly from the state with a view to meeting President Muhammad Buhari, on the issue, explaining that the Legislators are expected to take it up with Cameroon republic on how to control the water.

Hon. Pwamwakaino Mackondo, further appealed to the victims to be patient and wait for government's intervention, reiterating his commitment towards providing quality representation at the hallowed chamber.

Also speaking, the Acting Transition Committee Chairman Numan LGC, Ngari Ferdinand, said the Local on its part is making necessary arrangements to supply mosquito nets, some food items and other basic needs to the victims, commending the Deputy Speaker for the visit.

Responding, the royal fathers appreciated the Member for identifying with them, and said that that is what is expected of a good representative to keep in touch with those he is representing at all times.

They pleaded with the Deputy Speaker to relay the situation of things to the appropriate authorities for quick intervention so as to save lives, appealing for facilities to enable their subjects engage in dry season farming to augment most especially farm produce lost to the disaster.
