NUT TOUR: YOLA NORTH LGC ANNOUNCES #5000 ALLOWANCES FOR HEAD TEACHERS


Leadership of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) Adamawa state chapter has rounded up its tour of 21 Local Government Areas in the state.

The Leadership had while rounding up its tour in Yola North Local Government Area, received good tidings for Head Teachers across Primary Schools in the LGA, as they were promised #5000 enhanced allowances due to their commitment to their official responsibilities every month.

The Head Teachers are to start benefiting from the extra allowances for each as from November this year for revamping the ailing educational sector at the primary level across the LGA in the state.

This was announced by the Chairman Transition Committee of the LGC, Alh Ahmadu Wakili, while playing host to Chairman of the NUT, Comrade Rodney Nathan, other exco as well as Head Teachers in the LGA yesterday.

NEWS PLATFORM learnt that the tour of the LGAs which kicked started recently and rounded up yesterday, was initiated by Comrade Rodney's leadership primarily to keep it members abreast of their responsibilities and policy drive of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration in Adamawa State.

In all the 21 Local governments visited, the leadership had a fruitful deliberation with the Head Teachers, Principals as well as Education Secretaries, where they commended the NUT for the initiative.

It was gathered that the LGAs which recorded the highest number of turnout of teachers were accorded special treatment as they interfaced with their leaders on some of the incumbarances in the teaching profession.

Addressing mammoth crowd at RAMAT College Yola, the state capital, the Chairman of NUT, Comrade Rodney Nathan said that the tour was aimed keeping themselves abreast with their official duties.

While speaking on the retirement age of the members, Comrade Rodney told the gathering that  only Science and  English Teachers will benefit from the new policy of 65 years of age instead of 60 and 40 years of service instead of 35years.

He also appreciated the Governor for granting approval for the payment of#30,000 new minimum wage, stressing the need for teachers to register with the Teachers Registration Council after upgrading their professional academic status with a minimum of National Certificate Education, 27.5 percent increment.

He cautioned them on issues pertaining moral conduct like proper dress code as well as rape where he said  that union will prosecute any teacher found wanting.
