NUJ/POLICE CRISIS: RATTAWU THUMBS UP FINTIRI, WARNS AGAINST FURTHER INTRUSION

Moved by the recent invasion of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ), Adamawa State Council's Secretariat by the officers of the State Police Command, the Leadership of Radio, Television, Theater and Arts Workers Union (RATTAWU) has vehemently condemned the invasion and unwarranted assault meted on the chairman of the union by the police. The Leadership of RATTAWU which comprises of Adamawa Television Corperation (ATV) and Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), threatened to shut down their media organisations should what they described as uncivilised and barbaric act is repeated on the noble union. However, the exco gave kudos to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his timely intervention, insisting that it was his intervention that averted a full blown war between Adamawa Journalists and the Police Command. ADAMAWA POLICE ARREST RING LEADER OF KIDNAPPERS IN GIREI, RECOVER AK- 47

In their renewed commitment to combating crime in and around the state, the police in Adamawa state have apprehended a ring leader of kidnappers terrorising the inhabitants of Girei Local Government Area in the state. The suspect, Alhaji Ashiru Sule and resident of Tambo, a community in Girei LGA confessed to had masterminded several criminal activities including kidnapping in some communities in the area. According to the police command, the 38 year old Alhaji Sule was arrested on Sunday 5th April, 2020, with one AK- 47 riffle with 20 rounds of live ammunitions. A statement signed by the Public Relation Officer of the Command, DSP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje and made available to NEWS PLATFORM Tuesday, said that the suspect was nabbed by the operatives of the command patrolling Girei and Song LGAs respectively. NUJ SUSPENDS 3 DAY ULTIMATUM ON ADAMAWA POLICE AS FINTIRI STEPS IN

Three Day ultimatum issued by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Adamawa state council to the Commissioner of Police, Audu Madaki, demanding an reserved apology from the command for an alleged assault on the Chairman of the union Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan has been suspended. The suspension of the ultimatum followed an intervention by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the state, who brokered truce between the leadership of the Union and Police Command. Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan was reported to had been molested by O/C SARS and Jimeta Divisional Police Officer (DPO) who stormed press centre on Thursday last week in their efforts to enforce lockdown order imposed by Fintiri to curb the spread of COVID-19. POLICE NAB 4 SUSPECTED KIDNAPPERS, RECOVER WEAPONS IN ADAMAWA

In pursuance of the directives by the Commissioner of Police Adamawa state, Audu Madaki for the rescue of the kidnapped Chairman Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) state chapter, Comrade Hamma Jumba Gatugel, the police have succeeded in arresting 4 suspected kidnappers. Those apprehended by the police include; Sunday Innocent, 33, Buba Kaijo, 37, Sanusi Shehu, 20, and Tercher Buwa 44. According to the police, the suspects were arrested along Kojoli road in Jada Local Government Area in the state, and recovered 2 locally fabricated single barrel guns, 20 cartridges, fake military uniforms, charms among others. The Chairman of the union was kidnapped by yet to be identified armed men at his residence in Mayo Belwa LGA in the early hours of Saturday. COVID -19: ADAMAWA CP DIRECTS DCP TO MONITOR ENFORCEMENT

As lockdown order imposed in Adamawa state by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri enters its third day, the Commissioner of Police in state, CP Audu Madaki has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in charge of Operations to monitor how the lockdown order is being enforced. According to CP Madaki, the DCP and other officers are expected to embark on monitoring and supervision, so as to assess the level of compliance with the order, and at the same time how officers and men of the command are enforcing it. However, the CP has warned both commercial motorists and other individuals who convert their private vehicles for the purpose of carrying passengers to desist forthwith or incur the wrath of the law. ADAMAWA JOURNALISTS MAY BOYCOTT POLICE ACTIVITIES OVER ASSAULT ON CHAIR, OTHERS

Adamawa State Journalists may consider boycotting the activities of the State Police Command over unwarranted molestation of the Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ) state council, Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan. The Chairman of the union was reported to had been assaulted by the Jimeta Divisional Police Officer (DPO) who along side his men invaded the Secretariat of the union in their efforts to enforce lockdown order imposed by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri. The DPO and his men stormed the Secretariat of the union Yesterday evening in 3 hilux vans in search for those that flouted the lockdown order; hence the molestation and arrest of staff of the centre. According to eyewitnesses, similar incident occurred during the week when the Police  stormed the Press Center where they molested those they met at centre.
