50 MEDICAL DOCTORS STORM MICHIKA TO TREAT 7000 PATIENTS FREE OF CHARGE
Over 50 Medical Doctors are currently rendering free medical services to estimated 5000 to 7000 patients in Michaka and Madagali Local Government Areas in Adamawa state and some parts of Borno state and Cameroon republic.
The Medical Doctors drawn from the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Adamawa state chapter, are carrying out surgical operation, attending to patients with different types of ailments and administering assorted drugs to them free of charge.
NEWS PLATFORM saw patients with caliber of sicknesses and diseases trooping Michika General Hospital, and being attended to by 10 Consultants, Principal Medical Officers(,PMOs), as well as other members of the association.
The free medical services is being organised by the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Adamawa State chapter as part of activities marking 2019 Physician's Week, which kick started on Sunday, and expected to end on Saturday this week.
Speaking to NEWS PLATFORM in Michika today, a Consultant with Federal Medical Center(FMC), Yola, and Chairman Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) State chapter, Dr. Tonde Elijah, said that the programme is part of 2019, annual physician's week celebration.
Dr.Tonde, who led the Medical Team, stated that the association decided to render free medical and surgical outreach in Michaka LGA and environs as part of week long activities, saying that they came to the area with over 50 doctors among which are 10 Consultants and expected to spend 2 days in the area.
He said that they hope to achieve their target in the days set aside, urging on the patients to conduct themselves in an orderly manner and be patient, as they are not going to leave anybody behind without being attended to.
Also speaking, the Chairman Local Organising Committee, Dr. Nuhu Tari, explained that the programme is about alleviating peoples' suffering, saying the association decided carry out the programme in Michaka considering the effects of the insurgents attacks in the LGA and environs.
Dr. Tari, disclosed that people have been wallowing in abject poverty coupled with health issues, adding that as responsible doctors, they felt like giving out what they have to the needy in the society.
He pointed out that they are expecting to treat about 5000 to 7000 patients with different ailments and be given drugs free of charge, and thanked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, political stakeholders including in the area including Hon. Zakaria Yampa(Michika/ Madagali) Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Joseph Ayuba Kwada( Michika Constituency ADHA)Hon.Stephen Maduwa among others for their support.
Baring his mind, the Principal Medical Officer (PMO) Michika General Hospital, Dr. Tihze Jacob Zamani, described the decision taken by NMA to come and render free medical services in the area as the most outstanding decision he has ever seen.
The PMO added that it will take the hospital close to a year to do the kind of work the Doctors are going to do in 2 days, saying there is going to be a holistic address of health issues not only in Mchika, but neighbouring LGAs, Borno state and some parts of Cameroon republic.
