ADHA COMMITTEE ROUNDS UP INSPECTION OF PROJECTS IN YOLA SOUTH, FUFORE




 Adamawa State House of Assembly Ad Hoc Committee for the Assessment of the Performance of Local Government Transition Committees headed by Hon. Kate Mamuno (Demsa) has concluded it assignment in 5 Local Government Areas assigned to it by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas.

The 6 -Man Ad Hoc Committee constituted by the house during last week's plenary session, was mandated to visit Gombi, Song, Girei, Yola South and Fufore LGAs for an on the spot assessment of the performance of the Transition Committees.

The House Committee has Hon. Kate Mamuno(Demsa), Chairman, Hon. Alhassan Hammanjoda(Ganye), Vice Chairman while Hon. Myandassa Bauna(Lamurde), Hon. Abdullahi Ahmadu(Leko/Koma), Hon. Haruna Jelantikiri(Madagali) and Hon. Umar Nashion Gubi(Nassarawo Binyeri) as members.

The Honourable Members who on Tuesday visited Gombi, Song and Girei LGCs, was at Fufore and Yola South LGCs respectively yesterday where it concluded it oversight function as detailed by the house resolution.

The Legislators were warmly received upon arrival at the headquarters of the 5 LGs by the Transition Committee Chairrmen: Hamman Barau(Gombi), Barkindo Hammanjoda(Song), Mohammed Njidda(Girei), Cletus Buba Yguda Baraje(Fufore) and Ahmed Aminu Mujeli (Yola South)Vice Chairmen, Principal Officers of the Councils, Legislative Councillors, Supervisory Councillors, PDP Exco, and other stakeholders.

As directed by Speaker of the Assembly, the Lawmakers were able to interact with all the LG Bosses, both Councillors and Supervisory Councillors, and visited some project sites.

Speaking while in Gombi, Song and Girei, the Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Kate Mamuno(Demsa), told the Chairmen that it was the hallowed chamber that mandated them to visit them and see things for themselves.

She added that the oversight function was in line with the 1999 Constittion which provides for checks and balances, and said it was not aimed at witchunting anybody; rather, interface in the interest of their LGAs and the State in general.

While baring her mind to newsmen shortly after the oversight function, Hon. Mamuno, said the Chairmen have tried as she has seen a some projects executed by the councils, saying that though some of the projects are not yet completed.

According to her, the chairmen have done a wonderful job and described them as the kind of people they needed in the system to alleviate the suffering of masses and support Governor Ahmadu Umar Fintiri.

She pointed out that the Transition Committees have given the Governor a good representation, urging them to put in more efforts towards promoting the living standard of their people at the grassroots.

The female Legislator disclosed that most of the councillors have complained of not being carried along in the scheme of things, saying the house committee has spoken with the chairmen with a view to carrying out their activities based on the operational guidelines handed over to them.

She stated that the chairmen and the councillors supposed to work together in order to salvage their LGAs, expressing the readiness of the committee and the house towards supporting them.

On his part, the Vice Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Alhassan Hammanjoda, had while leading his colleagues in Fufore and Yola South, said that their visit was to get acquainted with them and what they have been able to put in place.

Responding while receiving the delegation, the Transition Committee Chairmen of the affected LGCs described the visit as a welcome development, saying it is good if someone is given assignment, at lease time to time should be asked to account for his or her stewardship.

The Chairmen however pledged their unflinching support to the House of Assembly as well as Governor Fintiri led administration, promising to continue to do more in providing dividends of democracy to the electorate.
