The Transition Committee Chairman of Numan Local Government Council in Adamawa State, Nathaniel Tyakul, has incurred the wrath of the State House of Assembly following recommendations by the House for his immediate suspension.
The Lawmakers further asked Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to suspend the Chairman for 2 weeks to enable the House Standing Committees on Public Petitions, Public Accounts and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the allegations levelled against him by the legislative council.
The decision of the Lawmakers followed the presentation of complaint letter filed against the Chairman by 10 Legislative Councillors of the Local Government Council.
The letter was presented at the resumed plenary session today by the Chairman House Standing Committee on Public Petition and Member representing Fufore/Gurin Constituency, Hon. Shuaibu Babas.
Earlier, the Councillors alleged that the Chairman has been running the affairs of the LGC without adherence to the rule of law guiding the policies of the LG administration, and vowed to ensure things are done in line with the rule of law.
The Councillors told the house that the embattled Chairman had earlier on embarked upon the construction of Agric department of the LG, renovated Divisional Police Officer (DPO's) office, repaired LGC's vehicles, replaced the electric poles in Zangun, Imbru ward and repaired transformer in Bare ward without approval as provided by their operational guidelines.
According to them, after their first complaint to the house and subsequent intervention, the Chairman discarded all the pieces advice given to him, saying that the LG Boss, went ahead and executed number of projects without following due process.
Some of the projects carried out by the Chairman include: repairing of transformer at Sabon Pegi ward, planting of trees along Jalingo road, renovation of finance department and payment of allowances to all Head Masters and Mistresses of Primary Schools in the LG without their consent.
They lamented that it appears the Chairman is ready to abide by the guidelines governing the office he is occupying not to talk of respecting the Councillors, saying that they have been receiving complaints from their electorate on the highhandedness of the Chairman.
After the adoption of the petition, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, directed the House Committees on Public Petition, Public Account and LG and Chieftaincy Affairs to investigate the affected Chairman.
