ADAMAWA ASSEMBLY SPEAKER, DEPUTY, 8 OHERS BAG AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE



A cliché which says "give honour to whom it is due" came to bear yesterday night when the Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, his Deputy, Hon. Pwamwakaino Mackondo, along side 8 others were honoured with prestigious awards of excellence.

The Speaker was presented with an award tagged," Icon of Legislative Development and Advancement ", while his Deputy was recognised as" the Braynial Member of the House" by the Youth Corps Members serving in the House.

Other Honourable Members honoured by the Youths included the erstwhile Speaker, Rt. Hon. Kabiru Mijinyawa(Yola South) as an "Exemplary Legislator", Majority Leader, Hon. Hammantukur Yettisuri(Jada Mbulo), "Influential Member", Hon. Bathiya Wesley (Hong), "Humanitarian Legislator".

Others include; Hon. Japhet Kefas(Gombi), " Enthusiastic Legislator ", Hon. Adwawa Donglock(Guyuk), " the Benevolent Legislator ", Hon.Shuaibu Musa(Mubi North), " Comrade of the House", Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno(Demsa), " Moral Heroine", and the Clerk of the House, Mr. Francis Ngansenso, as "the Iron Pillar of the House.

The award night held at the Women Education and Empowerment Initiative (WEEIN) in Yola, the Adamawa state capital, was graced by Speaker, his Deputy, other lawmakers, aids, supporters, family members, friends and well wishers.

Speaking at the event, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, appreciated the Youth Corps Members for the honour done to him, his deputy and other Honourable Members.

The Speaker told the gathering that the honour done to the members of the 7th Assembly was a clear indication that people are noticing what they have been doing at the hallowed chamber.

According to him, their recognition has added value to them, and reiterated their commitment to taking the house and the state in general to the greater height.

He pointed out that holding a certain position in the state and the country in general is a call that one must obey and do it with all sense of sincerity and honesty.

Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, posited that he counts youth that are serving in the house as lucky ones, because according to him,  they serve together with the members, urging them to sustain the relationship most especially among themselves even after the service, as well as continue to strive hard so as to excel in life.

Earlier, speaking while presenting an award to the Speaker, one of the organisers of the event, Victor K. Ibe, said that they have set the day aside so as to honour the illustrious sons of the state, who have distinguished themselves in law making business and in one way or the other.

Ibe disclosed that the Youth Corps Members thought that the awards will spur the legislators to put in more efforts for greater achievements which will eventually benefit their electorates, saying that the state and the country need strategic and visionary leaders like them.

He specifically gave kudos to the Speaker, saying:" reliable evidences have shown that the Speaker spends enough amount of time deliberating on the matters of the state".

Victor K. Ibe, further described him as tasted and trusted in public service, and thanked the entire members for honouring their invitation.

In her welcome address, Iortyom Angela, appreciated the House for the support it has been giving to the Corps Members, saying that the Members of House have been serving as fathers and mothers to them and prayed for God's protection and guidance.
