TRIBUNAL VERDICT: PARTY LOYALISTS, SUPPORTERS STORM YOLA FOR SOLIDARITY RALLY



Mammoth crowd which comprises of top government functionaries, members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) and well wishers have thronged Ribadu Square in Yola, the Adamawa state capital for a grand solidarity rally for Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, over last week's verdict at the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal.

Recall that the Tribunal had last week Friday put to rest the legal tussle between the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) where it struck out the petition filed before it by APC alleging over voting during supplementary elections conducted on 28th March, 2019 in 12 Local Government Areas in the state.

The party had dragged the PDP, Governor Fintiri and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as 1st, 2nd and 3rd defendants in the suit and sought for the nullification of the election across 385 polling units.

But to celebrate victory after the court's verdict, the party decided to organise a grand solidarity rally for the Governor. The event held at the Mahmud Ribadu square today, attracted thousands of supporters who pledged their unflinching support to the success Governor Fintiri.

The Governor was earlier on received upon arrival at the Yola International Airport by the top government functionaries, leadership of the PDP, Loyalists, Supporters, Youths and Women groups among several others.

Addressing the tumultuous crowd, the Governor appreciated them for their support to him and his government, and promised to strive hard in order to deliver on his mandate.

According to him, recent verdict at the Tribunal was a victory to democracy, and the people of Adamawa who massively voted for him into office as their Governor and gave kudos to the Judges for adhering strictly to the laws of the land.
He appealed to the opposition political parties to rally round him in the interest of the state, reiterating the commitment of his administration towards improving critical sectors including education, security, infrastructure, agriculture and welfare of workers among others.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, told the gathering that the financial autonomy granted to the Local Governments Councils in the state has redefined the councils, saying his government has made necessary arrangement towards the conduct of LGC polls.
