NLC DEMANDS IMPLEMENTATION OF MINIMUM WAGE, REGULARISATION OF WORKERS



As workers in Adamawa State join the rest of the Global Trade Union Movement in marking 2019 Decent Work World Day,  the Nigeria Labour Congress(NLC) has called for the full implementation of the #30,000 National Minimum Wage at all tiers of government across the country.

The NLC however demanded for regularisation of the workers that have secured appointments letters most especially in Adamawa state, implementation of promotion, payment of workers' entitlements and the creation of decent work hours for effective performance.

The President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, who made the call in a statement commemorating this year's Decent Work World Day with the theme," Invest in the Care Economy " said that decent work is a work secured and done by free workers who are entitled to form unions and engage in collective bargaining to protect the rights of workers.

Comrade Wabba, added that the International Labour Organisation (ILO) has set aside the day because of the work that is productive and guarantees minimum and living wages for workers, social protection for families, better prospects for personal development and social integration.

The President reiterated that their position as Labour Leaders is that decent work must be at the center of government actions' to bring back economic growth and build a new global economy that puts people first, appealing to government to increase investment in care to generate economic growth.

Comrade Wabba's statement which was presented at the Joint Council of Trade Unions in Yola, the Adamawa State Capital today by the Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), state chapter, Comrade Emmanuel Fashe, called on the governments to ensure full implementation of #30,000 to all workers.

Comrade Fashe, stated that workers must be treated with dignity in offices and factories as they create wealth, and harped on upward review of running-cost for ministries and construction company along Numan road.

In his remarks, the Head of Civil Service in the state, Dr. Edgar Amos, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary Establishment, Mr Talmon Fwa, said that the state government is committed to improving the working condition of civil servants;  hence the connection of the state Secretariat with National Grid and the prompt payment of salaries.
