CONSTRUCT 25 COTTAGE HOSPITALS, PRIORITISE HEALTH SECTOR, ADHA URGES FINTIRI
Disturbed by the deplorable condition of health facilities across the state, the Adamawa State House of Assembly has urged the state government to embark on the construction of cottage hospitals across 25 constituencies in the state.
The Legislators further appealed to Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led administration to as a matter of urgency, employ a qualified medical doctor and deploy him permanently in Shelleng National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Clinic.
Also, the Honourable House has called on the executive arm to note the sorry state of health infrastructure in Shelleng Local Government Area, with a view to addressing it.
However, the Legislators have urged the government to consider according health sector either 2nd or 3rd priority after security and education sectors in the state.
These were part of the resolutions adopted by the Lawmakers at yesterday's plenary session following a matter of urgent public importance brought before the house by Hon. Abubakar Isa( Shelleng constituency).
Hon. Isa, had while moving the motion, informed his colleagues that Shelleng LGA which was created since 1991, with a population of about 200 thousand people and bordering Numan, Demsa, Lamurde, Song, Gombi and Guyuk LGAs in Adamawa and Shani LGA in Borno State, has no hospital.
He said that the only primary health care facility that they have was created through philanthropic gesture of a corps member about 20 years ago, and that since then NYSC clinic is without a medical doctor.
He prayed the hallowed chamber to impress on the executive arm to employ and deploy a qualified medical doctor to man the clinic, and include the construction of a befitting cottage hospital in 2020 budget for passage.
Speaking on the motion, the Majority Leader, Hon. Hammantukur Yettisuri(Jada/Mbulo) said it is sympathetic to find out that a Local Government like Shelleng has no standard hospital, and called on the government to assign medical doctor in the area to attend to people.
On her part, Hon. Kate Mamuno( Demsa) stressed the need for government to take urgent steps towards constructing cottage hospital in the area, saying that Shelleng inhabitants deserve standard health care facilities.
While baring his mind, Hon. Abdullahi Umar Yapak (Verre) observed that the problem is not only in Shelleng, but cut across the 21 LGAs, pointing out that though the government of the day is trying despite financial constraints, but called for the employment of more qualified doctors, nurses and other health care personnel in the state.
But on his part, Hon. Adwawa Donglock(Guyuk) harped on the need for the House Committee on Health and Human Services to liaise with the Ministry of Health, Hospital Services Management Board for quick intervention.
Also speaking, Hon. Simon Isa(Song) gave kudos to the government for prioritising security and education sectors, and advocated on the need to accord health sector 2nd or 3rd priority.
Hon. Simon, further appealed to the government to revisit and complete the construction of cottage hospitals in Dumne and Gombi respectively, explaining that if the work on cottage hospitals are completed, will ameliorate the suffering of the constituents.
In his contribution while presiding over the sitting, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aminu Iya Abbas, advised the government to embark on the construction of at lease one cottage hospital in all the constituencies, and further directed the clerk of the house to communicate their resolutions Governor Fintiri.
