FLOODING: DEMSA COMMUNITIES CRY OUT AS MEMBER SEEKS QUICK INTERVENTION
Several Communities in Demsa Local Government Area, Adamawa State have been submerged by the flood disaster following the recent heavy down pour coupled with the release of water from Lagdo dam by the authorities of Cameroon Republic.
This is the second most devastating flood disaster in a decade most especially in Demsa aside that of 2012 flood disaster which affected many communities while claiming several lives in Adamawa state and some parts of Nigeria.
Most of the Communities currently affected by flooding include: Mbumara, Morawo, Tasala, Moro 1 and Moro 2, Kulasala, Kudiri, Bamayagi, Linga, Labakuri, Njungaling and host of others.
Several houses, food items, farmlands, utensils among other valuables have been washed away, while rendering many of the residents homeless.
Some of the residents of the worst hit communities were sighted making an emergency harvest and evacuation of the remnants of their farm produce, so as to get what they will fend for themselves and their family members.
According to cross section of the residents, the only alternative they have now is prepare for a dry season farming; hence, appealing to both the state and the federal governments to rescue their situation through the provision of facilities for dry farming.
Moved by the plight of the affected, the member representing Demsa constituency at the House of Assembly, Hon.Kate Raymond Mamuno, and the Acting Murum Mbula, Fenny Fwa, have supplied food items, drugs, mats for those that are camped at Borrong Central Primary School.
But to ensure an on the spot assessment of the damaged caused by the flood disaster, Hon. Kate Raymond Mamuno, along side the Acting Murum Mbula, Fenny Fwa, candidate of the People Democratic Party(PDP) Demsa LGA, Chief Elkanah Kados Fwa, Former Permanent Secretary, Hadley Peter Dilli, and several other stakeholders have visited the affected areas today.
The female Lawmaker and her entourage had to travel for more than 8 hours on water, visiting communities one after the other and commiserating with them over the disaster, while distributing some food items and cash so as to assist them.
So far, Hon. Mamuno, is the first legislator to visit her LGA to see things for herself in all the LGAs reported to have been ravaged by the recent flooding.
Fielding questions from newsmen shortly after assessing the damage, the legislator sympathised with her constituents, and appealed to both the state and the FG to as a matter of urgency intervene in order to save lives.
Hon. Mamuno, said she decided to visit the affected communities one after the other to have first hand information concerning her people, describing the situation as pathetic.
According to her, what her people needed at the moment include additional shelter, drugs, food items and other sensitive materials for their wellbeing.
The Legislator emphasised that her people are in dire need of intervention as quick as possible, saying she is going to sponsor a motion on the floor of the House of Assembly tomorrow so that the hallowed chamber will come up with resolution on it.
She advised them to be careful considering the fact that the water is still coming and expressed fear of possible cholera outbreak after the flooding, saying she is confident that the government of the day will come to their aid.
Also speaking the Acting Murum Mbula, Fenny Fwa, commiserated with his subjects, and said himself and the member are doing everything possible to ameliorate their suffering.
The Acting Murum Mbula, commended the member for her commitment and said she is actually out to serve her people, adding that he is impressed by her effort.
Fenny Fwa, called on the government, non-governmental organisations to help their people in order to engage in dry season farming since their farmlands have been washed away.
Baring their minds, the PDP Candidate Demsa LGA Elkanah Kados Fwa, and Mrs Ednah Fwa, observed with concern how the flood has destroyed houses, farmlands among others.
According to them, the communities needed immediate intervention from the state and FG's agencies because they do not know what will happen next, and thanked the member for immediate action.
