ADAMAWA GOVT CAUTIONS MOTORISTS AGAINST RECKLESS DRIVING, ESTABLISHES MGT AGENCY



Piqued by the rate of road crashes recorded in the state in recent times, the Adamawa State Government has warned motorists against reckless driving so as to drastically reduce cases of road accidents in the state.

It is against this backdrop that the Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, led administration expressed its readiness to collaborating with the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) towards the establishment of the State Road Traffic Management Agency (SRTMA).

According to the government, the establishment of the agency will go along way in complementing the effort of FRSC in curtailing the spate of road accidents that have continued to claim lives of innocent citizens.

The Deputy Governor of State, Chief Crowther Seth, stated this while flagging off the Third Quarter Zonal Retreat of FRSC RS3 held at the Adamawa State Polytechnic, Yola, yesterday.

The theme  of this year's retreat, "Improving Public Enlightenment through Stakeholders' Collaboration", is aimed at consolidating its primary mandate of curbing road traffic and accidents in the zone.

Speaking while flagging off the event, the Deputy Governor, stressed the readiness of the present administration to collaborating with the commission with a view to enlightening the public on the dangers of over speeding and reckless driving.

Chief Crowther Seth, warned motorists to desist from unsafe acts and reckless driving that can put their lives and that of their passengers' at risk, calling on them to adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the road

In his remarks, the Zonal Commanding Officer FRSC, Edward Zambe, said the establishment of SRTMA will go along way in controlling and regulating traffic related issues within the cities.

According to him, the agency would be used to decongest markets areas, create job opportunities and enhance public enlightenment, saying that the commission has embarked on registration of tricycles in the state.

On his part, the Rector State Polytechnic, Professor Ibrahim Umar, urged management of tertiary institutions to educate and enlighten teeming youths on the need to steer clear of intoxicants and careless driving to reduce road crashes.
